Shigatse Travels
A Lhasa-based team arranging private trips and small group tours across Tibet. We sort the permits, guides and drivers ourselves, and we'll tell you straight what works for your dates.
Our story
Planned from Lhasa, not from a distance
Shigatse Travels is a Lhasa-based Tibet tour operator, one of the longest-established agencies in Tibet, with over 25 years of experience. Our guides, drivers, and permit staff all work from the same office, so nothing gets passed to a third party.
We arrange private journeys and small group departures across central Tibet, Everest, Kailash and the east. You get realistic options for your dates, not a hard sell.
The plateau
Why Tibet stays with you
The Tibetan Plateau is like nowhere else: thin air, endless horizons, and monasteries that have guided lives for centuries. We help you experience it at a pace that respects both altitude and local culture.
Whether you’re drawn to Lhasa, Everest, Kailash, or the eastern valleys, we plan every route from our Lhasa office, with realistic timing and permit requirements built in.
Why Shigatse Travels?
Your trusted partner in Tibet
Choosing us means travelling with a Lhasa-based team that values authentic experiences, correct permits and service you can rely on.
- Tibetan-owned, Lhasa based Our office is in Lhasa, and we manage guides, drivers, and permit coordination in-house, not through a distant agency.
- Permits handled correctly Every Tibet trip needs a Tibet Travel Permit, and remote areas often need more. We prepare the paperwork before you fly. See our permit FAQs
- Small groups and private trips Join a fixed group departure or travel privately with your own vehicle and guide. We match the trip style to how you prefer to move.
- Responsible travel We work with local communities, respect monastery customs, and advise on cultural etiquette before you arrive.
How we work
Clear permits, paced days, local guides
We start from your dates, your pace and how you handle altitude. Then we apply for your Tibet Travel Permit and any extra permits for remote routes, and match a Tibetan guide and driver to the way you want to travel.
Altitude, monastery etiquette, and festival timing shape every itinerary. We brief you honestly, including when a request isn’t realistic for your dates.
Guest words
“We really enjoyed our time in Tibet, thanks to our guide and driver, who were always so kind and friendly.”
Alongside typed messages, guests still leave handwritten notes, and we keep them all in our Lhasa office.
